Wood based fuel has been the only affordable fuel for cooking for many people for generations and it is not sustainable. Felling of trees for firewood is causing environmental problems including deforestation leading to soil erosion and loss of soil fertility. There are also serious health issues from smoke inhalation. The aim of this project is to design a solar powered eCook stove that is affordable and acceptable to rural communities in Sub-Saharan Africa and especially in Malawi. The project looked at the current situation in Malawi with regard to cooking practices and reviewed the eCook stoves available at present.
